This beautiful peach sandstone villa is situated in the conservation area of Kelvinside, in the West End area of Glasgow G12
It had a steep sloping lawned garden, with the odd mature shrub and tree growing from the grass. The access to the street parking below was accessed by a set of old concrete 3/2 steps. This front garden was large, with a large south facing aspect, and was the best available space for our clients Zoe and Sandy to use, to relax, dine and play with with their young family, at the end of a busy day.
We produced garden designs to provide a relaxed secluded patio area, a new privacy screen and a sunken trampoline located on an open area of the garden and new graded lawns. Mature bamboo, cherry trees and pampas grass would allow the garden to be a secluded from the street and planting such as Phormium Tenax Tri-colour and lavender Hidcote would create a privacy screen around the patio area to enjoy the relaxing space.
We hired a large crane, and closed off a section off the road below , and moved all the materials for the excavation and the build of the project into the garden. 20 metre Sottish Whin walling, 18 tons of sand and 150 bags of cement, 30 metres of sawn sandstone paving, 50 bullnose sand stone treads 7 tons of new top soil and a 2 ton excavator were carefully positioned in to the garden. We carefully excavated the garden and all the waste materials were removed them to a convoy of skips, all completed within one day.
My vision was to build a beautiful set of bullnose sandstone stairs that would draw the eye into the garden. On the left of the steps we built a large patio area using Marshall’s sawn sandstone paving. This raised patio was retained by a natural stone wall, constructed for Scottish Wynn walling.
Behind the patio we constructed raised planets from the same stone walling and added some architectural plants. A finishing touch was to install a ground level trampoline and re-turf the remaining lawn area.
We commissioned a blacksmith to construct a powder coated gate from our own design, which was installed shortly after.
This garden now has the wow factor for friends, family and passers by too.
